Grand View Student Council
President: Oversees meetings with Student Council, facilitates discussions, and holds all officers accountable for their responsibilities.
Vice President: Assists and/or acts as the president when necessary, helps facilitate communication with the Student Body.
Historian/Secretary: Takes photos for the bulletin board in the office. Takes notes at all meetings
Spirit Chairperson: Will assist and coordinate 5th Grade helpers for Parent Chairs of Gators Events, including: Science Expo, Fiesta, and the Gator Run. Will also create and facilitates spirit days and Gator Green Fridays, lead Spirit Committee and Spirit Club. Fun Fridays included.
Community Service: Helps to create projects to help in the community of Grand View, Manhattan Beach and the South Bay.
Mascot (2 people): Wears the Gator costume during Grand View sponsored events and will attend run club once a month.
Green Team Commissioner: (2)
Garden Club: (2) Work with school’s gardens and beautification programs.
Character Counts Commissioners (1-girl/1-boy=2 total): Character assemblies. Help to instill character values and living out those values.
Safety Ambassador and Wellness Committee Commissioners (1-girl/1-boy=2 total): Be in charge of safety ambassadors. Help with improving play experiences and providing activities to promote social and emotional wellness.
Election Campaign Procedures
5. Candidates running for all positions, other than Gator will be giving a speech (30 seconds maximum) addressing why they deserve the position.
6. Candidates running for Mascot will be doing a cheer and/or dance (30 second maximum). These will be checked by Ms. DiBiase on Tues, September 11. Mascot’s, please bring your music on a a C.D. and leave it with us for your performance.
7. If a different speech is given then what was approved, the candidate will be disqualified.
8. Campaigning: There will be NO stickers, candy, or promotional items given aways to be used to campaign. You will be given regulation poster paper Aug 31. You may make ONE poster on this poster paper that will be displayed in the hallway by the library. The poster must be made by the student candidate.
9. No other form of advertising or campaign material may be distributed AT ANY TIME (including during your speech, cheer, or dance). NO candy, gum, pencils, toys, etc. The poster is the only acceptable form of campaigning.
10. Any candidate neglecting to recognize their duty to behave responsibly, respectfully, and scholarly will be disqualified. If you are unsure or have any questions--ask! Violating any of the above procedures will result in disqualification of the candidate.

- Visits every classroom at Grand View to present "walking assembly" on lunch-time waste sorting in late September
- Ensuring that each grade has super sorters to help with lunchtime sorting AND that the food donation food is put away in the donation fridge after 5th-grade lunch every day; maybe organizes popsicle reward system for super sorters?
- Participates in the Grades of Green Water Campaign in the fall and the Waste Campaign in the spring
- Holds green drives; ideas include a shoe donation in the fall and year-round Crayola color cycle drive in PTA room
- The green rep will also read Earth tips over the loudspeaker during Earth Week and will encourage students regularly to keep our campus clean and participate in local eco-events like beach cleanups.
Garden Club: (2) Work with school’s gardens and beautification programs.
- Will be responsible for helping to tend to garden, planting, weeding and harvesting as needed
- Will help organize Tomatomania sales in the Spring
- Will host a booth at the STEAM expo, giving tours around the garden
- Can decorate the garden for holidays
- Will help as needed with the Junior Chef program
- Will work with Mrs. Renshaw and parent rep to come up with fun programming ideas for the garden club

- Clipboards will be set out on Wednesday, September 4, during lunch to sign up to run for positions and given permission slips and posters.

- No academic concerns from teachers (average to above average progress).
- Nothing below a 3 in effort on report card
- Exemplary behavior and a positive attitude
- Good communicator

- Responsible and hard working
- Available to attend 2 meetings a month during lunch. If you miss more than 2 meetings, runner up will take over.
